Synopsis
She Who Questions tells the story of Trishna Singh and the Sikh women of Scotland, beginning with the community's migration from Punjab and the cultural expectations that kept women confined to domestic life.
Pulled out of school at 13 and raised to be a housewife, Trishna questioned everything—and after the devastating loss of her six-year-old son in a road accident, she stopped waiting for permission and founded Sikh Sanjog, an organization dedicated to giving Sikh women access to education, skills, and a voice in their community.
The film follows the ripple effects of that decision across generations, as women who once hid in the back of cafés now travel abroad together and pursue careers they never thought possible.
It also confronts the ongoing fight for equality within Gurdwara leadership and challenges the gap between Sikhism's scriptural teaching of gender equality and the reality women still face—making it both a deeply personal story and a broader call for change.
