Synopsis
"Sacred Threads in Lima" is the profound story of a Sikh man who left his home in India with a dream to see the world and work in tourism. His journey led him to Lima, Peru, where he married a Peruvian woman and started a family. However, his commitment to his faith and culture would soon be tested in unimaginable ways.
Before leaving India, he made a promise to his mother that he would never remove his turban. He held onto that promise, a sacred thread to his identity, even when it cost him dearly. In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, he faced devastating prejudice, being denied a job because a company told him, "you look like Bin Laden".
The struggle intensified when his young son was told by his school that he "have to cut your hair," a direct violation of their beliefs, because he was the only one. "SARBAT DA BHALA" is a heartwarming documentary that celebrates the timeless Sikh tradition of langar sewa, inspired by the teachings of Guru Ram Das Ji.
Set in Pur Hiran, Hoshiarpur district, the film chronicles the journey of Dhan Guru Ramdas Ji Langar Sewa, a noble initiative launched in February 2019 to feed the hungry, regardless of caste, creed, or status.
This inspiring story showcases how a dedicated team, led by visionaries like Baba Manjit Singh Ji, serves over 50,000 meals daily across Punjab, reaching hospitals, bus stands, railway stations, and even schools.
From providing milk and biscuits to malnourished children to delivering pizzas during farmers' protests, the langar sewa embodies the Sikh principle of equality and selfless service.
The film highlights the meticulous organization behind the scenes—40 trucks, automated roti machines, and a 7-crore annual budget fueled by global donations—ensuring no one leaves hungry.
Through emotional narratives, "SARBAT DA BHALA" captures the essence of 'Jaisa Ann Taisa Man' (as is the food, so is the mind), showing how nutritious meals nourish both body and soul.
The initiative extends beyond food, supporting education, medical aid, and weddings for the underprivileged, while planning future projects like a free hospital and school.
With stories of volunteers, from truck drivers to biscuit bakers, and the impact on communities—from accident victims to elderly visitors—this film is a testament to the power of Chardi Kala (eternal optimism) and the prayer for universal welfare: Sarbat Da Bhala.
