Synopsis
Step into the world of Humble the Poet in this intimate documentary that chronicles the journey of a rapper, spoken-word artist, and teacher who finds himself constantly battling perception. For Humble, music is not just a "leisure time activity"; it's a living that people struggle to take seriously.
He constantly confronts stereotypes based on his appearance, asserting that "the length of my beard had nothing to do with the content of my character". The film captures a pivotal moment in his life after he quit his 9-to-5 job, telling his family, "If I don't get into this music and I continue working this 9-to-5, I'll go nuts".
At age 30, an age where he felt he "should be established", he dropped everything to start a "whole new life". Driven by a powerful philosophy, Humble believes in choosing the "pain from discipline or pain from regret". He bases his confidence not on fleeting success, but on virtues that can't be stolen, only forfeited.
He pours everything into his craft, determined to get better with every album and to never "save your best shots in a basketball game".
With roots deeply embedded in Sikhism and the immigrant experience , the film explores the raw vulnerability behind the public persona—the "cowardly lion" with a mighty roar who on the inside is "crying" and fears being "a fake, a flake, a fluke, a flunky, a failure".
Through powerful lyricism, candid interviews, and a glimpse into his creative process, this is a story of identity, resilience, and what it means to be "clutching the earth, clawing for this thing they call a dream".
