Synopsis

" This is the heartbreaking question at the core of BASERA, a powerful documentary that shines a light on the forgotten elders of our society. The film takes you inside theAKAL OLD AGE HOME, a sanctuary founded on the Sikh principles of Sewa (selfless service) and Vand Shhako (sharing with others).

This home provides completely free care—including housing, food, and medical services—to the helpless, homeless, and poor elderly over the age of 65 whose families no longer care for them. Through raw and emotional interviews, BASERA shares the unfiltered stories of its residents.

You will meet parents whose children live abroad and never visit , those whose property and life savings were taken from them , and individuals who were thrown out of their own homes by the very children they raised. Amidst the sorrow, the film reveals incredible stories of resilience, love, and the formation of a new family.

Witness the unwavering dedication of a 70-year-old mother who single-handedly cares for her bed-ridden daughter. Beyond providing shelter, the film documents the comprehensive work of the Akal Trust, which also operates aRURAL MOBILE MEDICAL SERVICE to bring free doctors and medicine to remote villages.

The home is equipped with a physiotherapy room, a dental room, and a dedicated staff that treats every resident with love and dignity. 'BASERA' is more than just a documentary; it is a profound social commentary and a call to action for the younger generation to reflect on their duty to their parents.

It is a story of tragedy and abandonment, but also one of immense compassion, hope, and the unbreakable human spirit.
